Photo Story

"Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. It has to have a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor against another minor. Once adults become involved, it is plain and simple cyber-harassment or cyberstalking. The methods used are limited only by the child's imagination and access to technology. And the cyberbully one moment may become the victim the next.Children have killed each other and committed suicide after having been involved in a cyberbullying incident.here are two kinds of cyberbullying, direct attacks, messages sent to your kids directly and cyberbullying by proxy, using others to help cyberbully the victim, either with or without the accomplice's knowledge.Educating the kids about the consequences helps. Teaching them to respect others and to take a stand against bullying of all kinds helps too. Education can help considerably in preventing and dealing with the consequences of cyberbullying. The first place to begin an education campaign is with the kids and teens themselves. We need to address ways they can become inadvertent cyberbullies, how to be accountable for their actions and not to stand by and allow bullying to be acceptable. We need to teach them not to ignore the pain of others. Cyberbullying is making teen turns to suicide and depression. This activity falls under NETS STANDARDS 5.5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:

exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.
c.

evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.
d.

contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.
Educating students about how to take responsibility for their own actions and their well-being can lead teens to be leaders.

Prezi

Prezi is different from powerpoint because it adds more visual effect than powerpoint. It allows your presentation to be more personalized and to flow together more smoothly. Powerpoint does allow you to have certain features that the prezi doesn't, such as font colors and sizes. Prezi is limited with it's features, yet still lets you personalize them with style.
In the INTASC Standards, I feel this would fall under Standard 1.
STANDARD 1: CONTENT PEDAGOGY
The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.
The teacher know the subject she is teaching and along with the Powerpoint feature, Prezi allows you to personalize your lesson plan and reflect it to your students in a new and exciting way!

Powerpoint

I created my powerpoint on the Cell Cycle and Cell Division. I feel very comfortable in teaching this subject and I am quite knowledgeable in the area of cells. I added two videos at the end of my presentation as well for a better understanding of the concepts being taught. Also, I created a crossword puzzle on the terms we went over during the presentation and there is a link to complete the puzzle!

Jing Screencast

http://www.screencast.com/users/sassyAST/folders/Jing/media/eb55e8ff-42ad-4d2d-9fbf-1e7f9c77b8d7
I thought this assignment was difficult and hard to understand how the video was supposed to be presented in our blog. My video is how to make a word document and the little features you can use that most people forget about! Some of the features people forget about are, using Word Art, Clip Art, how to add headers and footers, page numbers, and a text box. My video clearly shows how these features can be used.

Self Assessment

I assessed myself as doing well in the course so far. I have stayed up to date on my assignments and have put all the time in to them I can to make them to my best ability. Some of the assignments are challenging but I think I put forth the best effort I could and deserve an "A" in the course so far. I do get confused on the requirements needed for a few assignments. I do feel I have put in my best effort.

Jing Graphic

Last semester (Spring 2010), I took biosphere. One of the things he taught us was the types of punnett squares and how to do them. In class my teacher used a graphic similar to the one I created to help us understand the meaning of the square and the possible outcomes that could come by doing it.My graphic I created is about homozygous and heterozygous alleles, and how to cross them to get their possible phenotypes and genotypes. A Punnett Square is summary of every possible combination of one maternal allele with one paternal allele for each gene being studied in the cross. On my picture I did an example of crossing two heterozygous alleles and their possible outcomes. I was excited to use this product because I love to draw and be creative with things I have learned in a classroom. This is an excellent tool to use for teaching information that is sometimes easier to understand after seeing it and explaining it from the picture. All the features and colors allow it to be bright and catch your student's attention.

Google Draw Tool

http://docs.google.com/drawings/pub?id=1GtpsBMYEo7QbauspcAYVB5eF6PlFOSoYql_QtRKAgEY&w=960&h=720
The drawing tools were cool. There were many different options you could use to add text. You could make a text bubble and write anywhere, or pick any shape you wanted to and write information in it. Also, when inserting an image on the page the Google search searches everything in the database so you have a wide variety of pictures to add to your doc!
The ISTE|NETS standard I choose reflected this work the most was standard 1, to Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity. Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
The drawing app allows students to use their creativity to explore new ways of learning. The drawing app has many different features on it that would help a child model their knowledge in a subject area. For example, a teacher wanted the class to make a "web" outlining chapter one. With the drawing app they can take what they learned from the chapter and be creative with it and model what they learned through the way they see fit.

Globster

http://abbyjane.glogster.com/
The link above is the link to my glob! Check it out :)
I didn't find many problems with this site other than they didn't have many samples or exmaples of music or audio. A globster web site has many possible uses for teachers of all subjects, but it is especially useful for English teachers. What's great about the site is that it's free, easy to use, and students can access and edit their Glogs from any computer with an internet connection. I really liked all the gadgets and decorations you could use for your page. It lets you express youself in ways that are fun and crazy. I like the feature that allows users to keep their Glogs private unless they send a visitor a link. It is like creating an online poster of yourself. This is good to use in the classroom because it allows students to find other students and get to know them. It also allows the teachers to find out different characteristics of their students. The ISTE standard I choice was standard 3, Excellence in Professional Practice. Educational Administrators promote an environment of professional learning and innovation that empowers educators to enhance student learning through the infusion of contemporary technologies and
digital resources. This standard is relating to children and what the learn in the classroom, whether it be technology wise or not, they can apply that information learned to the internet and to their globster. This is just a really good site for us to express ourselves in ways that we usually can't on a web page!

Self Portrait

It was very difficult to get my head to look right with my hair, and to get my eyes to face forward. I had to shrink my head to get my hair to look somewhat normal. I had to make the eyes bigger and rotate and flip them to make them look proportionate. When you are creating a portrait of yourself, you might look a certain way in the mirror, but to other people you might look like a completely different person. To me I think this is what I look like. But a self portait could be so many different things.
If you want to create your own self portrait go to this website :

Snipping Tool

This is the image I snipped. I have never used snipping before, But I found really cool! The image that was snipped was a passage about how to learn to ride a dirt bike. I had to learn this, and riding a dirt bike is one of my passions!

VoiceThread

A VoiceThread is a tool by which we can asynchronously meet, chat, draw, talk, cuss and discuss. Group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. VoiceThread really helped me to understand other people's viewpoints on why they wanted to be a teacher. I commented on the "Why Do I want to be a teacher". I want to be a teacher because I love to see children excel and I really want to be apart of changing a child's life one day. In my opinion the ISTE|NETS would be Model Digital-Age Work and Learning because teachers must exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. We are all expressing our knowledge and skills in the areas of teaching and we are expressing them to each other in our "global society".

Follow Someone/Google Reader

The first blog I picked to follow was, Learning is Messy. A class of 4th graders launched a balloon in the air and attached a camera on it. The balloon got up to 107,800 feet in the air and took over 500 pictures. I was amazed that a balloon could do that. These 4th graders are really using their heads when it comes to the science part of this activity.
The second blog I chose was Six things, and it was about 6 things our students are good at that we would've never even known. The skills they can do are not the skills we want them to develop but they are still clasified as "skills".
Twirling a pen between two forefingers and a thumb.

2 Leaning back on a chair just far enough to avoid falling over.

3 Drawing moustaches, devil’s horns and penises on photos in a book.

4 Opening the book to the wrong page every class.

5 Balancing a pen between the upper lip and nose.

6 Clicking pens quickly and noisily.

Internet Connection Test

Getting internet connection sometimes really sucks. At my apartment, I loose connection all the time. At any given time, I just get kicked off the browser. Alot of big cities receive connection very fast and can go from site to site within seconds, some smaller cities it takes more time. Depending on the usage and the company's people are using depends on how fast you receive connection to your browser. But yet at the same time in big cities it takes longer to receive connection because so many people are trying to log on and browse the web at the same time, like San Fransisco and Los Angeles. Your connection basically depends on the amount of people in your location.

Guardian

There are four types of personalities, Guardian, Idealist, Rational, and the Artisans. I predicted myself to be an idealist because I am a caring person, I strive for excellent and love to teach children so they can reach their potential. If you know the type of personality you are, it can help you to focus on what is important. Without knowing your temperament it can lead your environment to uncomfortable problems. After taking the personality test, my results stated I was a Guardian, not an Idealist. Guardians are the cornerstone of society, for they are the temperament given to serving and preserving our most important social institutions. Guardians have natural talent in managing goods and services, from supervision to maintenance and supply; and they use all their skills to keep things running smoothly in their families, communities, schools, churches, hospitals, and businesses.

Guardians can have a lot of fun with their friends, but they are quite serious about their duties and responsibilities. Guardians take pride in being dependable and trustworthy; if there's a job to be done, they can be counted on to put their shoulder to the wheel.Guardians make up as much as 40 to 45 percent of the population. In any environment, including the work place, I am usually focused on making people happy and facilitating harmonious relationships. I often lend "aid and comfort" by drawing on a combination of tradition, past experience, and the direction of established authority. In my ideal job, people would give of themselves and work toward the good of the group.
I feel that I show all of these traits exactly. I do strive on getting something done, I am a very dependable person. People feel that they can come to me at any time they need to. At work I do my job and help my other team members to finish theirs in a timely manner. I think an Idealist or a Guardian would be great leaders in a classroom. They both are responsible yet reliable, they stick to their guns and get the task at time done and accomplished. I can see a child's potential and when they can succeed and soar to new levels and what they need to do to get there and I will put that effort into the classroom. I know my information, and what needs to be done.

Personality Profile

I am an Idealist. An idealists are enthusiastic, they trust their intuition, yearn for romance, seek their true self, prize meaningful relationships, and dream of attaining wisdom. Idealists pride themselves on being loving, kindhearted, and authentic. Idealists tend to be giving, trusting, spiritual, and they are focused on personal journeys and human potentials. Idealists make intense mates, nurturing parents, and inspirational leaders. They are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self, always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. They believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. I am terribly hard on myself, I work extremely hard in school just to receive an A, I go out of my way to make sure everything is done and up to par. I am president of my sorority, therefore I have a strong sense of authority and getting what needs to be done. I look over all my girls and make sure they are all succeeding in everything they do. My girls can trust me with anything they have going on in their lives. I take great pride in that any of them can call me at any time of the day and know I am there for them and would do absolutely anything for any of them. I don't feel there should be drama in anything, everything can be worked through. As an idealist, I break myself down as a "teacher". My major is Elementary Education, and I've worked in a daycare for 4 years now teaching anywhere from infants to 4 year old's. I can see when a child is doubting themselves, and feel like they can not finish the problem being put in front of them. Anyone can succeed at anything they do as long as they try and give it everything they can. I can see a child's potential, and I can see my own sorority sister's potential when they are in a bad situation and instead of doing something about it they just let it go, but deep down they could have really made a difference. I am very bubbly and voice my opinion to people with care and concern. The number one job for an idealist to have is to be a teacher, and that is exactly what I'm headed for!

Browser Wars

Browser wars is a metaphorical term that refers to competitions for dominance in usage share in the web browser marketplace.During the 1990's Netscape's Navigator got replaced by Microsoft's Internet Explorer as a dominant browser. From the 1990s to just lately, 4 different browsers have been created, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera. In my opinion, a "browser war" is the competition between browsers. They constantly try to out do each other, with different ways to offer their service. To add more features to their browser to make it easier for everyone to use, and coming out with new upgrades with better and better accessible features. For example, Netscape's browser war with Microsoft in the 1990's. Internet Explorer did everything they could to make their browser the bested offered. They came out with new logos to put Netscape away. The four most used browsers today are, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome. The differences in how different web browsers parse and display web pages, which creates problems for web developers trying to make their web pages display consistently from one browser to another. To have the #1 web browser means you have to be consistent with your page and keep updating the features and fixing the odds and ends.
When my family first got a computer and have AOL, the dial up service. The service was horrible, very slow. The features weren't accessible at all. Then it switched to Internet Explorer, at first the browser didn't have much to offer. For example, now you can open as many tabs as you want and be on as many sites at you wanted at the same time, a few years ago that was not possible at all. Now I used Mozilla Firefox and have used it for awhile now and I don't have any problems with the browser at all, as of now.

Instructional Tech

I have never taken an online class before. This is my first. I've heard that instructional tech is a little difficult. Hopefully we can all work together!
